The City of Charleston, South Carolina is world renowned for its history, natural beauty, and charm. Since 1977, Keep Charleston Beautiful has been working to maintain the beauty of the area through education, awareness and community involvement. A clean Charleston is a visible demonstration of the pride that area residents take in their community.

Keep Charleston Beautiful is a committed group of community leaders, appointed by former Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., to take the lead in keeping the City of Charleston clean and beautiful. The work of the commission extends to all areas of the City of Charleston, including the Charleston Peninsula, West Ashley, James Island, Daniel Island, and Johns Island.

Keep Charleston Beautiful is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and PalmettoPride, and therefore works with other national and state organizations to promote a clean and beautiful environment for all Americans. Keep Charleston Beautiful is also a division of the City of Charleston Department of Parks.

A full-time coordinator manages the activities and programs of the Commission. The group of 10-15 commissioners meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month, at the Parks Department Building (823 Meeting Street)from 5:30-6:30pm. All meetings are open to the public.
