LGBT Resources
The City has various policies in place that prohibit discrimination including harassment on the basis of any protected status, such as age, sex, race, religion, color, disability, national origin, veteran status, political affiliation, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, and local laws.

The City also strives to create and preserve an environment free from discomfort or pressure relating to any personal characteristic such as personal appearance or sexual orientation. Sexual orientation means a person’s real or perceived heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality, or gender identity and expression.

In furtherance of its commitment to tolerance and fair treatment to all, the City has established an LGBT liaison.

If you believe that you have experienced or observed harassment or discrimination related to these issues, please email Rick Jerue.

In the event your concern relates to the Charleston Police Department, that department has its own LGBT liaison. The liaison for the Police Department is Deputy Chief Naomi Broughton, and she can be reached by email or 843-720-2400.
