Our Mission:
Keep Charleston Beautiful is dedicated to promoting the cleanliness and beautification of the City of Charleston through education, public awareness, and community involvement.

Our Goals:
1. To develop a cohesive set of outreach programs that address litter, beautification, and community involvement in the City of Charleston.
2. To create a strong cooperative network of community, business, and government leaders to further program activities.
3. To insure that Keep Charleston Beautiful goals and programs are familiar to all people who work and live in the City of Charleston.

Education Programming:
Keep Charleston Beautiful’s school-based education programs focus on teaching Charleston’s youth to live litter free lives while encouraging environmental awareness and volunteerism.

Programs are funded through support from the City of Charleston, PalmettoPride, Friends of Keep Charleston Beautiful, and community donations. Keep Charleston Beautiful's Education Coordinator assists with scheduling and development of the education programs. All programs are offered free of charge to schools.

Public Awareness:

Raising the public’s awareness about the detrimental impact of litter is essential to creating a clean, beautiful, and healthy community. In addition to what is considered normal litter, Keep Charleston Beautiful has targeted two prominent, yet often ignored, forms of litter with its Pick Up After Your Pet Program and My City Is NOT Your Ashtray Program. The organization also strives to raise awareness about waste reduction through recycling with its Green Spaces Recycling and Lend-A-Bin programs.

Community Involvement:
Keep Charleston Beautiful works year round with groups of any size to clean up local parks, marshes, or urban settings. Litter hurts us all by lowering property value, causing visual blight, and endangering children and wildlife. Each year over 2,000 volunteers lend their hands to help remove thousands of bags of litter from Charleston. Cleanup events average two hours and all supplies are provided to interested groups.

KCB also partners with local organizations to support cleanup events. These events include, but are not limited to, Beach Sweep River Sweep, Trident United Way’s Day of Caring, and Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup.
